Contemporary split-level garden design in Norfolk
This contemporary garden design in Norfolk saw a complete redevelopment of the topography of the space, changing it from an unusable, inconvenient slope that was neither one thing or another into a large, split-level composite deck with integral lighting and seating, gabion retaining walls, an incredible outdoor gym and hot-tub canopy all leading onto areas of meadow turf and rejuvenated lawn, a large low-maintenance perennial bed with feature, spot-lit trees and a brick edged self-binding gravel path leading to a further relaxation and entertaining space. Straight lines, precise building and a very satisfying outcome that’s cool as a cucumber

For the reality of a garden build through winter, as well as the level of transformation possible, please see the before and during photos below. I take great pride in ensuring that every single part of a garden construction is completed to a high standard, with attention to detail – both aesthetic and structural – a key driver in my work

Before the mud
Taking care to strip the turf by hand within the Root Protection Area of a grand old oak
Making sure everything is exact in its placement
Getting the brick edges in
Mud, foundations, machines and more mud
Trying to keep the excavations neat despite the wet conditions
Working by lamplight is a daily occurrence in Winter
Getting the site established
Progress on the framing
Protecting the (already treated) framing timber
Getting it done right
Gabion cages assembled and ready for siting and filling
Ready for the garden room foundations, integral bench getting sorted
Higher tier framing coming along
Very careful spacing, marking, pre-drilling, counter-sinking and fixing of boards
The garden room/gym has landed
A lot of time went into these seamless stack-bond steps
Thousands and thousands of stainless steel screws
Only the best – and Anglian Grab is definitely that
Whatever the weather…
Lawn turf and meadow turf in place – looking forward to seeing this in Summer
Working on the self-binding gravel paths
Compacted correctly with a compacting roller with integrated water-feed for excellent surface finish
Adding trim and details to the integral bench
Finishing off. Always breathe a sigh of relief when I look up and there’s actually a garden to show for the hard work!
